Overview:
The Southern Africa Litigation Centre (SALC) promotes and advances human rights and the rule of law in Southern Africa, primarily through strategic litigation and capacity-strengthening support to lawyers and grassroots organisations. SALC also provides small grants to community-based organisations.
Project Description:
Conté Africa was commissioned to design a comprehensive branding package for the Southern Africa Litigation Centre (SALC). Our task was to create a visual identity that would effectively communicate SALC’s mission and impact while resonating with diverse stakeholders across the region.
Key Strategies:
- Visual Storytelling: We created a powerful cover design featuring an image of a person carrying a large water container, symbolising the everyday struggles and resilience of the communities SALC serves. This visual metaphor effectively communicates SALC’s role in supporting fundamental human rights.
- Colour Scheme: We employed a sophisticated deep blue as the primary colour, conveying trust, stability, and professionalism. This was balanced with white text and accents to ensure readability and create a clean, authoritative look.
- Brand Consistency: We developed a cohesive design system that could be applied across various materials, including folders, brochures, and presentation materials. This included consistent placement of the SALC logo and the use of design elements.
- Information Hierarchy: We structured the content to highlight key information, such as SALC’s mission statement “Promoting Human Rights and the Rule of Law in Southern Africa,” ensuring it was prominently displayed on all materials.
- Regional Focus: We incorporated a stylised map of Africa with highlighted regions to visually represent SALC’s area of operation and impact.
- Versatility: We designed the materials to be functional for various uses, from conference folders to informational brochures, ensuring SALC could effectively communicate its message in different contexts.
Through this project, Conté Africa demonstrated its ability to create a compelling visual identity for a crucial human rights organisation. The resulting materials effectively communicate SALC’s mission, professionalism, and regional focus, enhancing its ability to engage with stakeholders, from grassroots organisations to international partners. This work supports SALC’s efforts in strategic litigation, capacity strengthening, and community support across Southern Africa.
