Reimagining Reparative Justice:
Global Solidarity Dialogues on Anti-Black Racism: Webinar Series Concept Note EN/FR/PT
Overview:
OSISA is a growing African institution working to deepen democracy, protect human rights and improve good governance in the region. Conté Africa has been a partner of OSISA for 4 years, collaborating on website redesign, branding, and strategy for their events and event materials.
Project Description:
Conté Africa was commissioned to develop a comprehensive brand identity for OSISA’s webinar series, “Re-Imagining Reparative Justice for Slavery, Colonialism, Apartheid & Structural Racism.” Our task was to create a visually compelling identity that would effectively communicate the complex themes of the series while resonating with a diverse, multilingual audience.
Key Strategies:
- Visual Identity Creation: We designed a striking and culturally relevant visual identity inspired by African art and symbolism. The design features a bold, geometric pattern incorporating stylized African masks, spears, and shields, rendered in a vibrant colour palette of red, yellow, green, and black – colours often associated with pan-African identity.
- Multilingual Approach: We created materials in English, French, and Portuguese, ensuring the message reached a wide audience across Africa and beyond. This included designing separate posters with translated content while maintaining visual consistency.
- Information Design: We developed a clear and engaging layout for the webinar agenda, using a dark background with contrasting text colours to highlight key information such as session times, topics, and speakers.
- Concept Note Development: We created a comprehensive concept note booklet that included background information, rationale, and a detailed agenda for the webinar series. The booklet’s design incorporated the visual motifs established in the posters, ensuring brand consistency.
- Digital Adaptation: We ensured the design was adaptable for digital platforms, including Zoom and Facebook access details on the promotional materials.
- Accessibility: We used high-contrast colour combinations and clear typography to ensure the readability and accessibility of information across all materials.
Through this project, Conté Africa demonstrated its ability to create a thoughtful and culturally resonant brand identity for a high-stakes dialogue series. By blending traditional African artistic elements with contemporary design techniques, we created a visual language that not only captured attention but also reinforced the importance of the webinar’s content. The resulting materials effectively positioned the “Re-Imagining Reparative Justice” webinar series as a key event in the discourse on anti-Black racism, enhancing OSISA’s role as a leader in promoting social justice and human rights across Southern Africa and beyond.
