Overview:
The Centre on African Philanthropy and Social Investment (CAPSI), the first of its kind in Africa, was established to promote social change by building a culture of effective giving and corporate social and civic responsibility. As a pioneering institution, CAPSI plays a crucial role in shaping the landscape of philanthropy and social investment across the African continent.
Project Description:
Conté Africa was commissioned to develop a comprehensive visual identity and communication strategy for the 3rd African Philanthropy Conference 2022, organized by CAPSI. This annual gathering serves as a platform for the exchange of experiences, collective reflection, and the nurturing and development of philanthropic and social investment practices among the continent’s leading philanthropic institutions and partners. Our task was to create compelling materials that would effectively communicate the conference theme, “Systems Change and the New Normal in African Philanthropy: Trends, Practices and Policies,” while promoting engagement among diverse stakeholders in the African philanthropic sector.
Key Strategies:
- Visual Identity Creation: We designed a striking and culturally relevant visual identity for the conference, featuring a vibrant, abstract pattern inspired by African textile designs. This pattern, composed of multi-coloured geometric shapes, symbolizes the diversity and interconnectedness of African philanthropy.
- Information Design: Our team developed a clear and engaging layout for conference materials, including a program booklet that effectively communicates key information such as speakers, sessions, and schedules. We used a harmonious colour palette that complements the main visual motif and ensures readability.
- Speaker Showcase: We created a visually appealing way to present conference speakers and moderators, using circular profile images with colour-coded borders to distinguish roles. This design choice adds a personal touch and helps attendees easily identify key participants.
- Brand Consistency: We ensured that all materials maintained a consistent look and feel, from the cover design to internal pages, creating a cohesive brand experience throughout the conference.
- Sponsor Recognition: We developed a clean and professional way to showcase conference sponsors and partners, acknowledging their support while maintaining the overall design aesthetic.
- Content Structure: We organized the conference content into clearly defined sections, using colour-coding and graphical elements to guide readers through different topics and sessions.
- Accessibility: We focused on creating materials that are clear and accessible to a diverse audience of professionals, academics, and practitioners in the field of African philanthropy, ensuring that complex ideas are communicated effectively.
Through this project, Conté Africa demonstrated its ability to create a visually compelling and informative identity for a high-level academic and professional conference. The result was a suite of English-language materials that not only effectively communicated the conference’s content and objectives but also celebrated the richness and diversity of African philanthropy. This work positioned the 3rd African Philanthropy Conference as a key event in the sector, enhancing CAPSI’s role as a leader in promoting effective giving and social investment across the continent.
